Privacy Policy

This policy is provided in English and Khmer. If the two ever disagree, the English version is the one that applies.

Who we are

Khmeng (khmeng.com) is a free app that teaches English to Khmer speakers. Questions, or requests about your data: khmengsupport@gmail.com.

What we collect

• If you use Khmeng as a guest: your progress is kept under a random code in a cookie on your device. No name or email is needed.
• If you create an account: a username, a password (we keep only a scrambled form of it, never the password itself), and an email address only if you choose to give one. We use the email only to send a password reset link.
• If you sign in with Facebook, Google or Telegram: we receive your name and an ID number from them, and nothing else. We do not receive your email, contacts or posts, and we post nothing for you.
• Your learning: lessons you finish, answers, the words you save, lessons you generate and the text you type to make them, favorites, and your game progress.
• Technical data: to limit abuse we keep a scrambled code made from your network (IP) address, not the address itself. Our servers also log your address for security and fixing problems.

We do not ask your age or collect your real name, phone number, location or photos.

Cookies

We use one cookie, which keeps you signed in and remembers your guest progress. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. We show no ads at this time. If that changes, we will update this page first.

Who else receives data

To make Khmeng work, some text goes to other services:

• OpenAI: the topic you type when you generate a lesson.
• Unsplash: search words, to find lesson pictures.
• Google Translate and Wiktionary: words you look up or add to your dictionary.
• Resend: your email address, only when you ask for a password reset.
• Facebook, Google, Telegram: only if you choose to sign in with them.
• Our hosting and database providers store the data described above.

We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising. Please do not type private information (such as phone numbers or addresses) into lesson topics or the dictionary, because it is sent to these services.

Children

Khmeng is for anyone who wants to learn, including children. We do not ask for ages, and children do not need an email address, a real name or any personal details to use it. Facebook, Google and Telegram do not allow children under 13 to sign in, so young children can use a username and password, or a guest. We encourage parents to help young children choose a username that does not contain their real name. If you are a parent and believe your child has given us personal information, tell us and we will delete it.

Your choices

• Delete your account: when signed in, choose "Delete my account" at the bottom of any page. This permanently removes your account, progress, dictionary, lessons and game data.
• You can also email us to ask what we hold about you, or to have it corrected or deleted.
• Guests can clear the cookie in their browser settings to remove their progress from that device.

How long we keep data

Account data is kept until you delete the account. Guest progress is removed after about a month without a visit. Password reset links expire after one hour.

Security

Connections are encrypted (HTTPS), passwords are stored hashed, and sign-in attempts are limited. No service is perfectly secure, so please use a password you do not use elsewhere.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update the date above. If the change is significant, we will say so in the app.

សុវត្ថិភាព
